Before hitting the dance floor, Umansky shared on 'Dancing with the Stars' that the longtime couple had been "going through a rough year" and he hoped the show could help get his "mind off of it"
Before hitting the dance floor with his partner Emma Slater, Umanksy addressed the recent hardships the pair have faced in his opening package.
"I am married to Kyle Richards," he began. "We've been going through a rough year, and I’m really hopeful that Dancing with the Stars is going to get my mind off of it and have some fun."
Umansky, 53, and Slater, 34, then performed a jive to "I Ain't Worried" by OneRepublic. After the dance number concluded, the cameras panned over to show Richards, 54, and their daughter Alexia reacting with joy while seated in the audience.
After the dance, co-host Julianne Hough asked Umansky about his family's reaction to his jive. "Your family, how are they reacting to this right now?" she asked.
"Oh, I think they love it. Did you guys like it down there?" he said, as applause sounded.
Umanksy and Slater earned a score of 15/30.
PEOPLE broke the news of Umansky and Richards' separation in July. The pair — who share daughters Alexia, 27, Sophia, 23, and Portia, 15 as well as Farrah Brittany, 34, from Richards' previous marriage — have been together for 27 years.
A source told PEOPLE that Umanksy and Richards are "still living under the same roof" but "remain amicable as they figure out what’s next for them and their family."
Following PEOPLE's report, the reality stars jointly issued a statement that "any claims regarding divorcing are untrue" However, they acknowledged they'd "have had a rough year."
"The most challenging one of our marriage. But we both love and respect each other tremendously," they continued. "There has been no wrongdoing on anyone's part. Although we are in the public eye, we ask to be able to work through our issues privately. While it may be entertaining to speculate, please do not create false stories to fit a further salacious narrative. Thank you for the love and support, Kyle & Mauricio."
"We're working through all of our things, which everybody knows about, and we’re just taking it day by day," he added. "We're trying not to let the press influence us and all of the social media and all of the stuff that’s going on. So we're trying to just ignore that and figure that ourselves. I can tell you we are both happy."
