A Kuppa Joy coffee shop is headed to a new part of Fresno. Here’s where it’s going

Kuppa Joy, the popular local coffee shop owned by a Christian former NFL player, is headed to northwest Fresno.

It is planning to open a location at the northwest corner of Palm and Bullard avenues, in the Opus I shopping center.

It announced the news in an Instagram post Thursday with a rendering of the Kuppa Joy sign on the building at 6011 N. Palm Ave.

The post said it will open this winter, but did not give many details. Owner Zack Follett, a Clovis High grad, was not immediately available for comment.

The coffee shop is taking over the space now occupied by Little Leaf Tea.

But that business isn’t going anywhere, said owner George Widjaja.

Little Leaf Bar, the bar and restaurant next door to the tea shop, will stay where it is, continuing to serve whiskey, kimchi fries and other food.

It will add a tea counter on the bar/restaurant side so customers can continue to get tea to go.

Since COVID-19 hit, customers were mainly getting their tea to go, not sticking around to study in the seating area on the end of the building, Widjaja said. So the move made sense.

“Nothing changes,” Widjaja said. “Mainly we just want to focus on the bar and the restaurant and takeout tea.”

This will be Kuppa Joy’s seventh location. The original Kuppa Joy is in Old Town Clovis, along with locations in the Fresno High area, at Shepherd and Chesnut avenues, and Kingsburg.

It has “joy thrus,” its version of drive-thrus, in Madera and northeast Fresno.

For northwest Fresno, it’s yet another new coffee shop. The neighborhood also recently welcome Bab-Al Yemen and a Peet’s Coffee at Bullard and West avenues, inside The Post (formerly Bullard Pharmacy).
