Stocks climb, dollar hits two-year high
NEW YORK (Reuters) -Global stocks advanced on Thursday after a four-session drop to end 2024, while the dollar strengthened after economic data pointed to a U.S. labor market that remained on solid footing. Data from the U.S. Labor Department showed the number of Americans filing new applications for unemployment benefits dropped to an eight-month low of 211,000 last week, below the 222,000 estimate of economists polled by Reuters.

Israeli military says commandos raided missile plant in Syria in September
Israel's military said on Thursday its special forces raided an underground missile production site in Syria in September that it said was primed to produce hundreds of precision missiles for use against Israel by the Iranian-backed Hezbollah. The complex near Masyaf, in Hama province close to the Mediterranean coast, was "the flagship of Iranian manufacturing efforts in our region," Israeli military spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani told a briefing with reporters. "This facility was designed to manufacture hundreds of strategic missiles per year from start to finish, for Hezbollah to use in their aerial attacks on Israel," he said.

Former crypto executive Do Kwon due in US court on criminal fraud charges
Do Kwon, the South Korean cryptocurrency entrepreneur behind two digital currencies that lost an estimated $40 billion in 2022, was set to appear in U.S. court on Thursday to face criminal fraud charges after being extradited from Montenegro this week. Federal prosecutors in Manhattan in March 2023 charged Kwon, who co-founded Terraform Labs and developed the TerraUSD and Luna currencies, with two counts each of securities fraud, wire fraud, commodities fraud and conspiracy. Kwon has denied wrongdoing.
