Kristen Stewart has debuted a bold new hair colour at the 2021 Venice International Film Festival.

The actress, who is premiering the highly anticipated Princess Diana biopic Spencer at the film festival, showed off her newly dyed strawberry blonde hair on the red carpet.

The actress, who is playing the late princess should be pleased with the positive first reviews that are coming through, with DiscussingFilm calling her turn "without a doubt her most dazzling and intricate performance to date".

The film already has an 85% certified fresh score on movie review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, which will most likely rise as more reviews are published.

The official synopsis for Spencer reads: "December, 1991: The Prince and Princess of Wales' marriage has long since grown cold. Though rumours of affairs and a divorce abound, peace is ordained for the Christmas festivities at Sandringham Estate.

"There's eating and drinking, shooting and hunting. Diana knows the game. This year, things will be a whole lot different."

Written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight and directed by Pablo Larraín, Spencer is set over three days during Diana's last Christmas spent with the royal family, when she decided that her marriage to Prince Charles was no longer working.

Describing the movie earlier this year, Stewart promised that it will sensitively explore the trauma Diana experienced over her decision to walk away from the royal family.

"Spencer is a dive inside an emotional imagining of who Diana was at a pivotal turning point in her life," Stewart said of the movie earlier this year.

"It is a physical assertion of the sum of her parts, which starts with her given name; Spencer. It is a harrowing effort for her to return to herself, as Diana strives to hold onto what the name Spencer means to her."

Spencer will premiere in US and UK cinemas on November 5.
