Kristen Stewart teases sex scene in new movie that will "shock people"

Sex on film is having a renaissance as Kristen Stewart has promised some shocking scenes in her upcoming thriller Love Lies Bleeding.

Directed and co-written by Rose Glass — whose debut Saint Maud received a rave review from Digital Spy in 2020 — the film is set in the world of bodybuilding. The story follows a reclusive gym manager named Lou (Stewart) falling for ambitious bodybuilder Jackie (Black Lightning's Katy O'Brian), with the pair getting embroiled in Lou's criminal family affairs.

Speaking about the movie, which is set to receive its world premiere later this month at Sundance Film Festival, Stewart teased some pretty intense sex sequences between Lou and Jackie.

"They don't take their clothes off, but this is going to shock people," the Crimes of the Future star told Variety about one specific intimate scene taking place in Lou's bathroom.

"All you ever [usually] see is a dress coming up and a head going down under," she continued, hinting at Love Lies Bleeding taking a different, more authentic approach to depict intimacy.

"I think even hetero sex on film is so rote. You go: 'OK, I know what that looks like in movies, that's what we'll do,' because no one actually wants to reveal themselves."

Discussing the dynamic between Lou and Jackie, Stewart also revealed how playing a butch character has made her feel sexy and present.

"There was something about having the things that I have found attractive be really glorified," she said. "It was really sexy. And I don't mean from an outsider's perspective: I felt turned on by it, and it was cool to have people witness that."

Alongside Stewart and O'Brian, Love Lies Bleeding stars Westworld's Ed Harris as Lou's father, as well as Dickinson's Anna Baryshnikov, Rebel Moon's Jena Malone and Now You See Me's Dave Franco in supporting roles.

Love Lies Bleeding is released in US cinemas on March 8, 2024 and in UK cinemas on April 19, 2024.
