Yahoo Movies Kristen Stewart ‘Will Likely Never Do a Marvel Movie’ Because ‘It Sounds Like a F—ing Nightmare’: It’s ‘Algorithmic’ and ‘You Can’t Feel Personal at All About It’
Don’t expect to see Kristen Stewart in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although the actor is no stranger to big budget Hollywood tentpoles, from the “Twilight” movies to “Snow White and the Huntsman,” she recently said on the “Not Skinny but Not Fat” podcast that the studio system would have to dramatically change in order for her to sign on to a Marvel tentpole. That, or Greta Gerwig would have to be directing.
“I will likely never do a Marvel movie … it sounds like a fucking nightmare, actually,” Stewart said, noting that she does like making “big movies because I like people to watch them when I’m in them.”

Podcast host Amanda Hirsch said that Stewart could’ve maybe played a version of Spider-Man’s love interest Mary Jane Watson at one point in her career, but the actor said “the system would have to change” in order for her to sign up for a Marvel movie.
“You would have to put so much money and so much trust into one person … and it doesn’t happen,” Stewart said. “And so therefore what ends up happening is this algorithmic, weird experience where you can’t feel personal at all about it. So likely not. But maybe the world changes, that’s what I’m saying. How could I tell you no when maybe one day … if Greta Gerwig asked me to do a Marvel movie, then I would do it.”
Stewart has largely spent the last decade making indie movies, many of which have earned her great acclaim. Her latest, the A24 crime thriller “Love Lies Bleeding,” is now playing in theaters nationwide. Stewart got her acting start in major Hollywood films, earning a career breakthrough in David Fincher’s “Panic Room” at Sony Pictures opposite Jodie Foster, who has remained a mentor for Stewart throughout her career. Foster herself recently said in an interview with Elle magazine that superhero movies are just “a phase” — one that has gone on a bit too long for her liking.
“It’s a phase. It’s a phase that’s lasted a little too long for me, but it’s a phase, and I’ve seen so many different phases,” Foster said on the matter. “Hopefully people will be sick of it soon. The good ones — like ‘Iron Man,’ ‘Black Panther,’ ‘The Matrix’ — I marvel at those movies, and I’m swept up in the entertainment of it, but that’s not why I became an actor. And those movies don’t change my life. Hopefully there’ll be room for everything else.”
