What you need to know about Sam Asghari's hot-headed cop role in explosive thriller 'Hot Seat'

The action thriller "Hot Seat" has been a smoldering topic in the pop culture world, but not because of its cast of veteran actors like Oscar winner Mel Gibson, Kevin Dillon and Shannen Doherty.

The heat emits from a breakout role played by Sam Asghari, Britney Spears' longtime boyfriend, who married the pop superstar last month.

"Hot Seat" (in theaters and on demand now), which takes its literal title from the bomb placed under the office chair of a computer hacker, hasn't caught the attention of major movie reviewers.

But here's everything you need to know about Asghari's role, the explosive "Hot Seat" action and that incendiary office furniture.

Kevin Dillon is a hacker who can't get up from his explosive rolling chair

It's brave casting putting Dillon, best known as the dimwitted Johnny "Drama" Chase from "Entourage," as Orlando Friar, the family man who is secretly the world-renowned hacker known as the Red Knight. It's even braver having a remote villain dictate hacking orders to Friar after pointing out the bomb under his rolling chair. Between the seat bomb and the electric fence around the desk, there's not a lot of room for Friar to move or even wheel. While there is perspiration, it's not from the tiny leg pushes from the chair.

Fortunately, "Hot Seat" takes the creative license to overlook the need for any bathroom breaks. That would have been tricky.

And the scenario does lead to the line of the year from a nearby office worker somehow trapped with Friar who commands, "Get your (butt) up out of that chair, figuratively, and get us the (heck) out of here."

Sam Asghari's police sergeant is more rabid than Riggs in 'Lethal Weapon'

As suggested by the facial stubble, Asghari's Sergeant Tobias is roguishly trigger-happy and eager to take out Friar, whom Tobias believes is setting off bombs in the city. He urges Chief Connelly (Doherty) to go for the kill with lines like, "We strike, kill the (expletive), before he stings again, like a real man" and "Let’s discuss asset elimination."

Tobias is close to being as unhinged as Gibson's Riggs from the "Lethal Weapon" franchise – making it ironic that Gibson's bomb squad veteran is the one calling for calm and reason.

Tobias has contempt for the bomb squad, calling them "desk jockeys" and "washed up."

Mel Gibson brings the 'Lethal Weapon' references

There are a few movie references in "Hot Seat," but none more obvious than Gibson's "Lethal Weapon" callbacks. Riggs' famous "red wire" bomb riff from "Lethal Weapon 3" even gets an inevitable new twist in "Hot Seat."

Speaking of nonspoiler points about the ending, if you thought that a frantic, rolling office chair attempt to escape from a seat bomb would never appear on movie screens, you're dead wrong. That's all we're saying.

Is there a Britney Spears 'Hot Seat' cameo?

Asghari met Spears when starring as her love interest in the music star's 2016 “Slumber Party” music video. However, Spears doesn't appear in "Hot Seat." Asghari did give props to his famous partner for giving him career visibility during a June 29 "Good Morning America" interview.

"I didn't really get noticed until, you know – my wife gave me, like this amazing platform to work with. So I'm always appreciative of that," he said. "I don't take any opportunity that I have for granted, and I really try to stay positive with everything that's happening."
