The skinny: The track and field state championships are set to return to Tacoma and Cheney this weekend following a two-season pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2020 track and field season was canceled in its entirety, while the 2021 season was condensed without a postseason. While most defending state champions, as well as former state placers and participants have since graduated, many who competed as freshmen in 2019 are set to return, along with promising newcomers set to appear at the state event for the first time. Here’s a look at some of the top athletes to watch for this weekend (times and marks as recorded on athletic.net).
