Kitchen fire ‘significantly’ damages Sheridan’s Unforked restaurant in Johnson County

An early morning fire that appears to have originated in the kitchen area significantly damaged the Sheridan’s Unforked restaurant in Overland Park, a fire department spokesman said Friday.

Firefighters from Overland Park and Leawood fire departments responded to the fire just after 6 a.m. at the restaurant in the 7300 block of West 119th Street, said Jason Rhodes, a spokesman for the Overland Park Fire Department.

The first crews on the scene reported smoke coming from the roof of the small, single story restaurant. Firefighters entered the building and attacked the fire in the kitchen area.

Meanwhile, other firefighters searched the building to make sure no one was trapped inside, Rhodes said. It appears no one was inside at the time of the fire.

Firefighters brought the fire under control in just over 20 minutes and spent the next 20 minutes looking for hot spots and making sure the fire had not spread.

The fire damaged the kitchen and front counter area, but the entire building sustained significant smoke damage, Rhodes said. It appeared the fire originated in the kitchen area. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
