Kings-Timberwolves gameday live: De’Aaron Fox set to return; Karl-Anthony Towns ruled out
De’Aaron Fox is questionable for Monday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves at Golden 1 Center due to right hamstring soreness.
Fox sustained the injury in Friday’s victory over the Phoenix Suns. He was held out of Saturday’s win over the Utah Jazz, but Kings coach Mike Brown said that decision was “more precautionary than anything else.”
The Kings (45-29) are third in the Western Conference with a six-game lead over the No. 4 Phoenix Suns. The Kings can clinch their first playoff berth since 2006 in front of their home crowd with a win over the Timberwolves, a Suns loss to the Jazz or a Los Angeles Clippers loss to the Chicago Bulls.
The Timberwolves (38-37) are seventh in the West, a half-game back of the Golden State Warriors for the No. 6 seed. The Timberwolves will be on the second night of a back-to-back after beating the Warriors 99-96 on Sunday at Chase Center in San Francisco.
Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns returned to the lineup last week after missing 52 games with a calf injury. Towns had 22 points, four rebounds and three assists in 26 minutes in a win over the Hawks on Wednesday. He had 14 points, five rebounds and three assists in 32 minutes in Sunday’s win over the Warriors.
Record watch
Kings rookie Keegan Murray needs only four more 3-pointers to break Donovan Mitchell’s rookie record of 187. Murray went 6 of 12 from 3-point range while scoring 22 points in Saturday’s win over Utah.
Murray, who came out of Iowa as the No. 4 pick in the 2022 NBA draft, is averaging 12.0 points and 4.6 rebounds. He is shooting 44.9% from the field and 41% from 3-point range.
Fox cleared
Fox was cleared to return to the lineup after participating in Monday’s morning shootaround. A team spokesperson said the Kings had full medical availability.
Towns out
The Timberwolves announced that Towns had been ruled out due to right calf strain injury management. Anthony Edwards was questionable with a right ankle sprain.
