King Kong Will Be 100 Feet Tall In Skull Island

’Kong: Skull Island’ director Jordan Vogt-Roberts has revealed how enormous the giant gorilla will be in the new movie, which will both confuse and surprise a lot of people.

Speaking during day one of CineEurope, Vogt-Roberts was keen to divulge a little more information on the upcoming fantasy adventure, and according to The Hollywood Reporter the iconic ape will be bigger than we’ve ever seen him.

“This is going to be the biggest Kong there’s ever been. Not 10 foot or 30 foot, but a 100-foot ape,” the helmer shared, which is a significant increase in size from Peter Jackson’s title character in 2005′s ‘King Kong’. The giant ape there wasn’t all that big, sizing up at 25 feet, but was twice that size for original 1933 film.

With ‘Skull Island’ due out in 2017, which stars Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Toby Kebbell, and Sam L. Jackson, it will be followed up by a franchise merger with ‘Godzilla’, whereby the two oversized beasts will slog it out.

‘Godzilla v Kong’ isn’t out until 2020, but considering the former is around 350 feet tall, Kong’s still got some growing up to do. And perhaps that is exactly the case - maybe the ape was but a youngster in Jackson’s epic, and is only just starting to grow. So, in theory at least, by the time it comes time to fight Godzilla, he’ll be a fully-grown adult. But even then Kong would have to put on some considerable bulk if he’s to genuinely compete with the fearsome reptile who’d be three times his size.

Whether or not Gareth Edwards considered the character’s future when he made the monster over double its original size in his 2014 remake is anyone’s guess. Perhaps producers hope to (in the most unsubtle of ways) simply plan to increase Kong’s size over the next few movies without any explanation, assuming no one will notice.

After all, stranger things have happened when you’re discussing the sizing logistics of a giant ape fighting a fire-breathing lizard.

‘Kong: Skull Island’ is in UK cinemas on 10 March, 2017.
