When it comes to conversation around the Met Gala, you wouldn't be mistaken for thinking that money is no object for those in attendance. With a seat to the eminent fashion fundraising event reported to set you back around $35,000 (over £25,ooo), it's hardly one of the most affordable nights out pencilled into a celebrity's calendar.

That still doesn't mean that we don't wince slightly when the true costs of the Met Gala looks are disclosed. Rarely does this happen, with stylists and celebrities usually keeping their cards close to their chest, meaning that any shared information becomes all the more sensationalised.

It's safe to say though, that when Kim Kardashian's hairstylist Chris Appleton revealed that the fashion and beauty mogul's 2021 Met Gala ponytail cost $10,000, we were a little taken aback.

If you're struggling to place this ponytail in what was by all accounts, a surprising outfit for the media personality and businesswoman, whose red carpet style usually has a distinct Kardashian essence to it, it's likely because her outfit made her pretty hard to place in general.

Dressed in a black-out gown, bodysuit and face mask which left not an inch of her body uncovered, the ponytail and recognisable figure were all that made it apparent it was actually Kardashian hiding underneath all that fabric.

The ponytail in itself was a spectacle to behold; 75 inches of sleek hair which perfectly matched the reality star's natural dark brunette shade. While it was clear that the hair wasn't all Kardashian's own, the price of the hairstyle still came as a bit of shock to Appleton's Instagram followers after he shared the true cost of the look on an Instagram stories question-and-answer session.

In another Instagram post, Appleton broke down the products he used to attain her Met Gala look, including the Colour Wow Dream Coat Supernatural Spray he applied to give her hair that iconic high-shine Kardashian finish.

With a receipt of $10,000 (over £7,000) just for the extensions alone, we've decided it's in our own best interest not to pry into the total bill, including Appleton's own fee and the services of seasoned make-up artist Mario Dedivanovic, whose work was hidden from the majority of the public under Kardashian's opaque balaclava mask.

Media outlets speculated if Kardashian's outfit signalled a reunion with her ex-husband and rapper Kanye West, with the minimalist bodysuit and abstract appearance reminiscent of his own styling.

As it transpires, the black head-to-toe ensemble was designed in collaboration between West and Balenciaga's Demna Gvasalia, the latest in a run of fashion stunts pulled by the duo. In true Kardashian style, family ties and shock factor reigned supreme for this Met Gala appearance.
