Kim Kardashian is defending her decision to wear her hair in Fulani braids again, just months after the reality star came under fire for calling them “Bo Derek braids.”
Kardashian said she meant no offense and did it for her daughter North.
“I actually didn’t see backlash. I actually did that look because North said she wanted braids and asked if I would do them with her. So we braided her hair and then we braided my hair,” Kardashian told Bustle in an interview published Wednesday.
Despite not seeing the backlash to her look, the 37-year-old told Bustle she is fully aware of the cultural appropriation controversy she created in January after calling her Fulani braids “Bo Derek braids,” referencing the star’s look in the 1979 film “10.”
“I [do] remember the backlash when I had the blonde hair and that I called them ‘Bo Derek braids.’ But I obviously know they’re called fulani braids and I know the origin of where they came from and I’m totally respectful of that,” Kardashian said. “I’m not tone deaf to where I don’t get it. I do get it.”
She added, “Maybe if I had come out and explained that from the beginning instead of calling them ‘Bo Derek braids,’ then it wouldn’t have gotten such backlash. But in no way am I ever trying to disrespect anyone’s culture by wearing braids. If anything, my daughter was so excited to see me get matching braids with her. [When] we did her hair in these braids, she was so excited.”
Despite Kardashian’s claim that she’s not “trying to disrespect anyone’s culture by wearing braids,” some on social media say she’s doing just that.

“Black hair is not just hair. There’s history and context tied to these styles that cannot be ignored, a historical legacy forever linked to the ongoing cultural remnants of slavery and institutional racism,” she said in 2015. “A white person who wears these styles dismisses that context and turns black hair into a novelty, a parody, a subtle form of blackface.”
Blay added, “To you, white women, it’s just a cool hairstyle. To us, it’s something we’ve fought to be able to fully embrace. There are other ways to admire or celebrate black hair without coopting it. But understand — black hair can be deeply political, deeply spiritual, and deeply personal.”

As a landlord I don’t feel I have any rights. Reading the news and the social media mess crowing about the delay to the abolition of Section 21 and how it’s a “victory” for landlords makes me feel physically sick.

UPS and FedEx are facing uncertainty in U.S. supplies of big, boxy electric step vans they need to replace their gas guzzlers and make a dent in the country's climate-warming tailpipe emissions. The path to electrification by the package delivery giants is critical to U.S. President Joe Biden's transportation climate goals. Achieving that aim, however, is hampered by battery shortages that are limiting EV supplies and keeping prices high, and by startup electric van makers that are running out of money and shutting down.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday took up Donald Trump's bid to avoid prosecution over his efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss to Democrat Joe Biden. Trump’s lawyers argue that former presidents are entitled to absolute immunity for their official acts. Otherwise, they say, politically motivated prosecutions of former occupants of the Oval Office would become routine and presidents couldn’t function as the commander in chief if they had to worry about criminal charges.
U.S. Olympic hurdler Christina Clemons sent numerous emails to those in the track community raising concerns over a gap in health care insurance coverage for new mothers who still wanted to compete. For Clemons, it's a way to help carry the baton and follow in the footsteps of Allyson Felix and others who have been advocating for equality for mothers on and off the track. “There is a huge lack of support in sports in general when it comes to mothers, which is crazy to me," said the 33-year-old Clemons, who gave birth to her son, Kylo, on Feb. 4, 2023, and is trying to make the U.S. team for the Paris Games this summer.
“If you have a phone that’s been smashed, broken, shot, drowned, or whatever,” says Kingston Police Constable John Theriault, he will find a way to fix it, get to the data within, and use it to put criminals away. His excellent track record notwithstanding, he told the board he needs help. The software and hardware he requires and uses are ever-cha

Will Power said Thursday he was unaware of any manipulations to Team Penske’s push-to-power system until after last weekend’s IndyCar race at Long Beach and never illegally used the mechanism. Team Penske is under heavy scrutiny following the March 10 season-opening race at St. Petersburg, Florida, in which Josef Newgarden was stripped of the victory and Scott McLaughlin, who finished third, was also disqualified. Power finished fourth and while his result was not thrown out, he was docked 10 points and all three Penske drivers were fined $25,000.
MONTREAL — Quebec provincial police say they've arrested 40 sex offenders in an operation involving multiple police forces across the province. The operation targeted people considered a high risk to reoffend. Police looked for offenders who had violated court-imposed conditions and those subject to arrest warrants. They say they found "numerous" people who had violated an order to register with the national sex offender registry. The operation, which began April 2, involved 24 municipal police
