(Reuters) -Canada's main stock index rose to a two-week high on the first trading day of the year, as rising gold and oil prices boosted commodity-linked sectors. The TSX ended 2024 with gains of nearly 18%, its best annual performance since 2021, as monetary policy easing by major central banks increased optimism for economic growth. All 11 sectors rose on Thursday, with gold miners and material stocks in the lead.
