KFC Chizza: Everything to Know About the Hottest New Chicken-Pizza Hybrid

The fast food chain's hottest new menu item combines fried chicken and pizza.

Sometimes, the best combinations are the ones you don’t expect — things like joggers and a tailored blazer, that Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper duet everyone cried over at least once, and Snoop Dogg’s enduring friendship with Martha Stewart. KFC is trying to make another surprising combo work by bringing its “chizza” to restaurants in the United States for the first time ever.

The chizza, a mashup of fried chicken and pizza, has been on menus in the Philippines since 2015 and has regularly featured at KFC locations in Germany, India, Korea, Mexico, Spain, Taiwan, and Thailand since then, but it’s never appeared anywhere between our shining seas. That all changes on Monday, February 26, when we can get our first taste of the chizza (pronounced “cheet-za”), which takes a pair of KFC’s Extra Crispy fried chicken filets and tops them with marinara sauce, melted mozzarella cheese, and crispy slices of pepperoni.

"Fried chicken and pizza collaborated to create something even better – the Chizza," Nick Chavez, the chief marketing officer for KFC U.S., said in a statement. "The fan-favorite mashup is finally available in the U.S. after making its way around the world – try it while you can!"

If you’re in New York City and can’t wait another minute to have a pep-and-cheese covered chicken filet, then you’re in luck. KFC is opening what it’s calling “the world’s first Chizzeria” on Friday, February 23, and Saturday, February 24, and it’ll be serving up some of America’s first chizzas. The pop-up restaurant will be located at the KFC at 242 E 14th Street in NYC, and its staff — can we call them chizzaiolos?— will be slinging chizzas from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. both days.

The chizza will be available at participating KFCs nationwide for a limited time and can be ordered either on its own or as part of a combo meal that includes one chizza, an order of Secret Recipe Fries, and a medium drink. The solo Chizza starts at $9.99, while the combo is expected to be priced at $12.99.

But the pizza isn’t the only new addition. KFC is also temporarily bringing Blackberry Lemonade back to its menus. The tangy drink debuted last summer before it quietly vanished. We’re not saying that a Chizza and a Blackberry Lemonade are the new Snoop and Martha, but we’re not not saying that either.
