Major League Baseball is ready for its 2022 Field of Dreams game between the Chicago Cubs and the Cincinnati Reds. Among those paying homage to the 1989 sports movie is Kevin Costner, who commemorated his late Field of Dreams co-star Ray Liotta in the sweetest way.

On August 9, the Yellowstone actor posted a handful of photos from Field of Dreams, in which he starred as a troubled Iowa farmer. After transforming his cornfield into a baseball field, he encounters the ghosts of baseball legends, like Ray’s character Shoeless Joe Jackson. More than three decades later, Kevin shared a heartfelt message on Instagram about Ray following the Goodfellas actor's death at age 67 in May.

“In honor of MLB at Field of Dreams this week, I wanted to share some memories from the movie but more importantly remember the amazing Ray Liotta,” Kevin wrote. “'Shoeless Joe Jackson' will be out there with all of us for a great night of baseball in the fields of Iowa.”

Reacting to Kevin’s bittersweet note, Field of Dream fans immediately agreed with the actor and echoed his thoughts in the comments section. “Shoeless Joe Jackson absolutely Is synonymous with Ray Liotta and [Field] Of Dreams ❤️❤️❤️,” one person wrote. “Remembering Ray Liotta and the great movie with you all. ⚾️ 🧢,” another added. “Ray Liotta - Legend. Amazing as Shoeless Joe,” a different fan said.

During MLB’s inaugural Field of Dreams event last summer, Ray recalled what it was like stepping onto the cornfields of Dyersville. “For one hot Midwest summer, we called that small town home. Filming in that Iowa heat, telling a story of the magic of America’s game,” he told Fox Sports.

Although Kevin won’t be present at this year’s game, there’s a good chance he’ll be tuning in from home and thinking about Ray’s legacy.
