We are Kentucky women who care. We are begging lawmakers to stop SB 150 | Opinion

To Governor Beshear and members of the Kentucky House and Senate:

“We must remember that any oppression, any injustice, any hatred, is a wedge designed to attack our civilization. “ FDR

We are mothers, grandmothers and daughters, teachers, nurses, doctors, lawyers, therapists, business professionals, faith leaders and retirees. And we are all disappointed and angry at the behavior and actions of many of our elected leaders in Kentucky during the current legislative session. Instead of focusing on critical issues like hunger, homelessness, maternal mortality, shortages of teachers, nurses, and other healthcare providers that could lift people up, you used your time bullying a group of vulnerable Kentuckians who already face many other challenges.

You ignored the voices of parents pleading for their children’s lives and happiness. You ignored the voices of health professionals who work with Kentucky’s LGBTQ+ community sharing what is standard of care, evidence-based, and aligns with their professional code of ethics. You ignored the stories of transgender people sharing how access to affirming care and professionals saved their lives. Instead, you listened to a fringe faction, paid to travel from other states to spew misinformation and disinformation. You created and passed a monster of a bill that is shameful in its intent, tone, and consequences for our Commonwealth.

We applaud Senator Danny Carroll, Representatives Kim Banta, Stephanie Dietz and Killian Timoney for withstanding coercive tactics and peer pressure from their GOP colleagues and hope others will join them and support a veto of this misguided bill. Help care and protect the most vulnerable among us.

We encourage others with compassion to join us and use your voice to speak out against this bill and support our LGBTQ+ friends and neighbors.

Sincerely, 111 Women of Kentucky who care
