Kennedy High placed in lockdown after fight involving parent reported on Sacramento campus

Authorities in Sacramento on Wednesday afternoon placed John F. Kennedy High School on lockdown as a precaution after a reported fight involving a parent and a staff member.

The parent arrived on the campus at 6715 Gloria Drive in the Greenhaven neighborhood and was behaving aggressively toward a staff member, according to the Sacramento City Unified School District. School officials then placed the campus on lockdown out of an abundance of caution.

School district officials said the lockdown was lifted soon after the situation had been resolved, and the campus had returned to normal operations as of 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. The situation was de-escalated and no arrests were made, according to the school district.

The incident at Kennedy High was reported about 12:15 p.m. as a fight and a disturbance, according to the Sacramento Police Department. Officer Karl Chan, a police spokesman, said officers responded to the school and the scene was stable.

Shortly before 2 p.m., Chan said there were a few police officers at the campus helping school administration officials with the investigation into the reported fight.

Another high school in Sacramento County was placed on lockdown Wednesday. A social media post or posts threatening violence at “JHS” or “IHS” on Wednesday went viral online, putting high schools starting with those letters across the country on high alert, including Jesuit High School in Carmichael.

Jesuit High administrators said they do not believe there was a specific threat and that the campus would remain open with added patrols from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

Just across the river in Yolo County, River City High School in West Sacramento was placed on lockdown Wednesday in response to an anonymous caller who told staff there was a shooting threat toward the campus. School officials said River City High students were being sent home early Wednesday afternoon as police investigated the alleged threat.
