DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza Strip (AP) — Israel kept thousands of Palestinians from returning to their homes in the northern Gaza Strip on Sunday as it accused Hamas of violating a fragile ceasefire by changing the order of hostages it has released. Local health officials said Israeli forces fired on the crowds, killing two people and wounding nine.

CAIRO (Reuters) -Tens of thousands of Palestinians waited, blocked on the road, to return to their homes in northern Gaza on Sunday, voicing frustration after Israel accused Hamas of breaching a ceasefire agreement and refused to open crossing points. A day after a second exchange of Israeli hostages held in Gaza for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, the holdup underlined the risks hanging over the truce between the militant group and Israel, longtime adversaries in a series of Gaza wars. In central Gaza, columns of people were waiting along the main roads leading north, some in vehicles and some on foot, witnesses said.

MINSK (Reuters) -Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko said on Sunday that some of his political opponents had "chosen" to go to prison as he cast his vote in a election that was set to extend his 31-year rule. As Belarusians voted, Lukashenko sparred with the world's media at a press conference lasting more than four hours and 20 minutes. He said no one was prevented from speaking out in Belarus, but prison was "for people who opened their mouths too wide, to put it bluntly, those who broke the law".

At least 13 soldiers serving with peacekeeping forces in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have been killed in clashes with M23 rebels, United Nations officials have said. The rebel group M23 has made significant territorial gains in recent weeks, encircling the strategic city of Goma, which has a population of about two million people and is a regional hub for security and humanitarian efforts. The M23 is mainly made up of ethnic Tutsis who broke away from the Congolese army more than a decade ago.

Brazil to demand explanations on 'degrading treatment' of deportees
Brazil's Ministry of Foreign Affairs plans to seek explanations from the U.S. government over the "degrading treatment" of Brazilians on a deportation flight, the ministry wrote on X on Saturday night. There, Brazilian officials ordered the removal of the handcuffs, and President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva designated a Brazilian Air Force (FAB) flight to complete their journey, the government said in a statement Saturday. The flight was the second this year from the U.S. carrying undocumented migrants deported back to Brazil and the first since U.S. President Donald Trump's inauguration, according to Brazil's federal police.
