Following the death of Olivia Newton-John on Monday, August 8, it seems like the whole world is mourning the loss of the Australian actress and singer. After a long battle with breast cancer, Newton-John died at the age of 73.

Country singer Kelsea Ballerini went to TikTok to pay her respects to the icon by recording a cover of Newton-John’s ballad "Hopelessly Devoted To You" from the blockbuster film Grease.

The song climbed all the way to the number three spot on the Billboard Hot 100 after Grease came out. It even received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song at the 51st Academy Awards. Kelsea reposted the TikTok on her Instagram with the caption: "olivia newton-john forever 💔."

Fans adored the thoughtful tribute (probably something to do with Kelsea's angelic voice) and shared their feelings of sorrow for the loss of the pop-star. They said:

  • "Such a sad day. She was such a talent. RIP Olivia Newton-John❤️"

  • "This made me tear up"

  • "Beautiful tribute to Olivia ❤️"

  • "Chills so beautiful!! May her amazing legacy live on through people honoring her!"

  • "What a beautiful tribute. Such a sad day. 🤍😢"

There is no better way to honor Olivia than in song, especially if you can do her music justice like Kelsea. Like Kelsea, Newton-John was considered a country artist for some time in the 70s (she even won 1974 CMA Female Vocalist of the Year).

Olivia Newton-John's husband, John Easterling, shared the news of her passing on her verified Instagram account on August 8. "Dame Olivia Newton-John passed away peacefully at her Ranch in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends. We ask that everyone please respect the family's privacy during this very difficult time. Olivia has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer,” Easterling wrote on Instagram.

Olivia's legacy will continue to live on forever in film and song.
