KC men’s basketball wins second straight for first time since November: Roos recap

For just the second time this season, the KC Roos men’s basketball team has won back-to-back games.

Despite trailing by two (25-23) at the half, KC (9-13, 5-4 Summit League) scored 41 second-half points on its way to a 64-61 win over Omaha (7-15, 3-7).

The Roos won two straight games back in November (vs. Toledo, vs. Indiana State), but have failed to capitalize on the momentum of a win the rest of the way.

Shemarri Allen led the way for the Roos with 20 points in the win. RayQuawndis Mitchell struggled from the field, going 2-for-12 for just 11 points, plus four turnovers — though he did have five rebounds and a steal.

Allen David Mukeba Jr. scored a season-high 15 points and missed just one shot on the night, shooting 7-for-8 while grabbing six rebounds of his own.

The Roos held Omaha to just 34% shooting from the field, but the game remained tight in the second half due to Omaha’s foul shooting. Omaha converted on 16 of 20 attempts from the foul line.

KC will be back in action at 7 p.m. Saturday against Denver. That game will be played at Swinney Center in Kansas City.

KC Roos women’s basketball notches seventh win of season

Much like the men’s team, the KC women’s basketball team has struggled to string wins together.

On Saturday, the Roos will have the chance for their second winning streak of the year. The Roos (7-14, 3-7 Summit League) defeated Omaha (9-12, 4-6) 64-55 for their first road conference win of the season.

E’Lease Stafford recorded 23 points and five rebounds and Machia Mullins (10 points, 10 rebounds, two steals) had a double-double for the Roos, who have now won two of three.

The game featured 13 lead changes, but ultimately the Roos’ strong first half kept them in a comfortable position for most of the night.

Kansas City will head to Denver for a matchup on Saturday at 2 p.m.
