KC Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is hurting. Here’s what he said about the Titans game

Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who has been dealing with the lingering effects of a “stinger” neck injury from Week 5’s loss to the Buffalo Bills, was limited in practice on Wednesday.

But he apparently has no concerns about his availability for Sunday’s showdown against the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium in Nashville.

The three-time All-Pro said Thursday morning that he intends to be ready to play on Sunday, especially with two more days of practice remaining before the Chiefs were scheduled to board their flight to the game.

“I do,” Kelce said Thursday when asked if he expects to play Sunday. “I mean, I was itching at the bit to have every single rep that I can possibly get out there. That’s just who I am.”

So far this season, Kelce has 38 catches for 468 yards and four touchdown on 53 targets.

The Chiefs likely took it easy on him Wednesday, knowing he gutted out last Sunday’s 31-13 win over the Washington Football Team. He limped in and out of the lineup throughout that game, playing on 67 of the team’s 82 total snaps on offense — his fewest, percentage-wise at 82%, in a game this season.

Of course, seeing less time on the field Sunday didn’t hurt Kelce’s production much: He totaled eight catches for 99 yards on 11 targets.

He said Thursday that being able to post such stats in spite of an injury starts with seeing at least some practice time in the week leading up to a game.

“I’m a big believer in getting in my reps during the week, making sure everything looks good — or, if something happens, being able to communicate with everybody out there on the field: coaches, quarterback, O-linemen, whatever it is,” he said. “That communication goes a long way on Sundays, or a long way throughout the course of a season.

“You don’t always get the same look, or the look that you want, and sometimes during practice it prepares you for situations in a game that you typically aren’t thinking about.”
