KC Chiefs’ Clyde Edwards-Helaire active against the Broncos; Kyle Long will not play

The Chiefs have their starting running back available for Sunday night action at Arrowhead Stadium.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire, who entered the weekend as questionable after missing Friday’s practice with a stomach flu, was not among the Chiefs’ four players designated as inactive against Denver Broncos.

Edwards-Helaire will continue sharing backfield touches with Darrel Williams. Both running backs face a Denver defense ranked 12th in the league against the run (106.6 yards allowed per game).

Offense lineman Kyle Long will not dress for his first game in a Chiefs uniform. Long started the season on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list before the Chiefs activated him earlier in the week. He put in a full week of practice, so Sunday night’s listing was a bit of a surprise.

The Chiefs’ remaining inactives are rookie tackle Lucas Niang (ribs), cornerback Rashad Fenton (knee) and rookie quarterback Shane Buechele. Niang and Fenton were previously ruled out on Friday’s injury report.

Veteran Andrew Wylie will likely start again for Niang, who misses a third straight game.

With Fenton not active, cornerback Deandre Baker was activated for just the fifth time this season.

For the Broncos, running back Melvin Gordon (shoulder, hip), quarterback Brett Rypien, defensive tackle Mike Purcell, safety Jamar Johnson and cornerback Essang Bassey were declared inactive for the game against the Chiefs.
