KC Chiefs-Bengals prediction: Can Kansas City continue its revenge tour in playoffs?

The Chiefs have played five NFL teams twice this season. Five rematches. Five opportunities for quarterback Patrick Mahomes to see an opposition’s game plan ahead of time, then assess and adjust.

It’s not a spot you want to face him.

OK, there isn’t really a spot you want to face him, but this one in particular puts you in a precarious position. Mahomes is 5-0 in rematches this season — twice beating a team the Chiefs lost to earlier in the year. He’s thrown 15 touchdowns and just two interceptions and averaged 344 passing yards per game in the second meetings.

That’s all to say the Bengals might be in some trouble this weekend. They defeated Mahomes and the Chiefs only four weeks ago in Cincinnati.

But now he gets another shot in the AFC Championship Game at 2:05 p.m. Sunday — this one on his home field. This storyline worked OK last week. The Bills silenced Mahomes in a Week 5 matchup, and he responded by shredding their defense with 378 yards and three touchdowns in the overtime win.

The Bills had the league’s No. 1-ranked defense in the regular season. The Bengals do not. In fact, the Bengals allowed 248.4 passing yards per game this year, which ranked 26th in the NFL.

It sets up for the potential of a big day for Mahomes. So even if the Bengals have plenty of offensive firepower themselves, and quarterback Joe Burrow and wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase certainly burned the Chiefs once before, it shouldn’t be enough to offset what the Chiefs can do.
