Kate Winslet – Rose Probably Could Have Saved Jack In Titanic

It’s an often-mulled alternate ending to ‘Titanic’ - Rose helps freezing Jack up onto her bit of wood adrift in the icy North Atlantic, and they paddle off to happiness.

Kate Winslet appears to be from this school of thought too.

Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, she discussed the fame that the James Cameron movie has afforded her, as well as the climactic and heartbreaking final scene with her doomed co-star Leonardo DiCaprio.

“People are always so excited to see Leo and myself in the same space, which at the end of the day, that’s so lovely,” she said.

“It’s been 20 years and people still get such a kick out of it. It’s really quite endearing.”

Once Kimmel brings up the callousness of her character, who 'let [Jack] freeze to death in the water’, she concedes.

“I agree,” she admits. “I think he could have actually fit on that bit of door.”

It’s not the first time that it’s been suggested that the two of them could have survived, had Winslet’s Rose been less of a float-hog.

An episode of the long-running Discovery Channel show 'Mythbusters’ even devoted a whole episode to surviving the James Cameron disaster movie in 2012.

They deduced, among other things, that had Rose used her buoyancy aid underneath her piece of board, it would have helped it float, thus saving them both from the freezing waters for long enough to be rescued by Ioan Gruffudd’s Officer Lowe.

But Cameron, who gamely appeared on the show, added: “I think you guys are missing the point here. The script says Jack died. He has to die.

“So maybe we screwed up and the board should have been a little tiny bit smaller, but the dude’s goin’ down.”

So cold, James. So cold.
