Kate Middleton's rare personal tweet honouring Sabina Nessa

The Duchess of Cambridge has taken to social media to post a rare personal Twitter statement following the tragic death of 28-year-old school teacher Sabina Nessa.

Kate Middleton took to Twitter on Friday night (September 24) to write, "I am saddened by the loss of another innocent young woman on our streets. My thoughts are with Sabina’s family and friends, and all those who have been affected by this tragic event. C."

Roya Nikkhah, the royal editor at The Sunday Times commented below the statement, "It is understood that flowers are being laid on the Duchess’s behalf this evening at the vigil for #SabinaNessa."

On Friday night a vigil was held in Kidbrooke, South East London, and more than 500 people gathered to pay tribute. Sabina's sister spoke at the vigil, while attendees laid flowers, lit candles and remembered the young teacher who lost her life too soon.

One Twitter user replied to Kate's touching note, "Thank you for speaking out on Sabina, as a fellow young woman in education, this particularly hit me. Sadly, Sabina isn't the only one."

Another said, "It’s appalling our streets should be safe for everyone another life lost so cruelly and she had so much to look forward to."

While a third penned, "Thank you, I can’t believe this is happening time and time again. For Sarah, for Sabina and for all the other women who were killed whilst walking alone.. we think of you and hope and try to build a better future for ourselves and our daughters. #ReclaimTheseStreets"

Sabina, who was found dead last week, is thought to have been attacked at Cator Park in south east London at around 8.30pm on Friday 17 September.
