The Princess of Wales made a surprise visit to Royal Surrey County Hospital's maternity unit on Wednesday, where she took the opportunity to learn about how the hospital supports pregnant people and new parents.

While on her visit, Kate Middleton met with staff and mothers from the unit's Jasmine Team – a setup which helps women affected by poor mental health during pregnancy.

As a mother of three herself, the experience made the Princess reminisce about her own children, revealing a precious fact about her youngest, 4-year-old Prince Louis.

When meeting baby Giles Talbot-Erasmus during her visit, she made an adorable comparison: “I keep thinking Louis is a baby but he's a big boy now. It just feels like yesterday.”

It wasn’t just little Louis who Kate mentioned either, her eldest son, Prince George was also compared to the newborn. In particular, the Princess couldn’t help but remark on the scrunched up baby pose Giles was in. “George was so huddled up too, he spent quite a few days like that,” Kate shared.

The visit to the baby unit was the Princesses first solo engagement since the end of the mourning period following the Queen's death.

Kate also had a cuddle with 34-week-old Bianca Moran, who is being looked after by a specialist team at the hospital. “She's very sweet,” the Princess told Bianca's mum Sylvia.

It’s no secret that Kate is a big advocate for mental health (and the importance it can have during a child’s early years) and is well-known for her love of children. During the trip she showed empathy towards many of the mothers’ birth stories too.

“No matter how much everyone tells you what you expect, it's a shock to the system isn't it?” the Princess is believed to have said. “You have this idea of what will happen but every single birth is different.”

She added: “As nurturing as I know the hospital is, there's nothing like being in your own home. And I bet your families are desperate to see you all.”

When talking to parents at Copenhagen's Children's Museum in February, Kate hinted at her recent broodiness. She joked that her husband Prince William gets worried when she works with children under the age of one, simply because she returns home wanting “another one”.
