Kansas Jayhawks to meet Seton Hall in Big 12-Big East Battle at Allen Fieldhouse

Kansas’ men’s basketball team will play host to Seton Hall as part of the Big 12-Big East Battle during the upcoming 2022-23 season, it was announced Wednesday.

The game will be contested Dec. 1 at Allen Fieldhouse.

KU is due to play a game at home in the annual challenge between the two conferences. The Jayhawks defeated St. John’s 95-75, last season in Elmont, New York to improve to 2-1 all-time in the challenge series. KU defeated Creighton, 73-72, in the 2020-21 Battle at Allen Fieldhouse and lost at Villanova, 56-55, in the 2019-20 game in Philadelphia.

Seton Hall will be led by first-year Pirates coach Shaheen Holloway. Recently, it was reported by nj.com that 6-foot-8 senior forward Alexis Yetna would return to Seton Hall after initially planning on turning pro. He averaged 8.1 points and 7.6 rebounds a game for Seton Hall last season.

The Pirates lost their top three scorers in Jared Rhoden (15.5 ppg), Bryce Aiken (14.5) and Myles Cale (9.8). Kadary Richmond and Jamir Harris return after averaging 8.8 and 7.9 ppg.

Last year, Seton Hall beat Texas, 64-60, in the Big 12-Big East Battle on Seton Hall’s court. Seton Hall went 21-11 a year ago under coach Kevin Willard, who now is head coach at Maryland. The Pirates lost to TCU, 69-42, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Jayhawks are 2-1 all-time against Seton Hall. KU defeated the Pirates, 83-79, in the round of 32 of the 2018 NCAA Tournament in Wichita. KU won, 80-62, in the fifth-place game of the Maui Invitational in 2001. Seton Hall topped KU, 92-81, in the finals of the Great Alaska Shootout in 1988.

Kansas State will travel to Butler for the Wildcats’ Big 12-Big East Battle game on Nov. 30. Other Nov. 30 games will be Providence at TCU and Georgetown at Texas Tech.

Baylor will travel to Marquette on Nov. 29. On Dec. 1 it’ll be Seton Hall at KU, plus Creighton at Texas and Oklahoma State at UConn. Oklahoma will travel to Villanova on Dec. 3 and St. John’s will travel to Iowa State and West Virginia will travel to Xavier on Dec. 4.
