Kansas Jayhawks defensive end Lonnie Phelps Jr. gets invite to 2023 NFL Draft Combine

Kansas defensive end Lonnie Phelps Jr. is one step closer to his NFL dream.

The Kansas football team announced on social media on Friday that Phelps has accepted an invitation to the 2023 NFL Combine. The Combine will take place from February 28-March 6 in Indianapolis.

Phelps originally played at Miami (OH) for three seasons; he had 9.5 sacks and was named second-team All-MAC in 2021. After that season, the edge rusher transferred to KU and was a star for the Jayhawks last season.

He played in all 13 games with Kansas in 2022 and made 12 starts. Despite playing through injuries, he had a team-leading seven sacks.

The redshirt junior posted 57 total tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss (4.5 in Big 12 play), six QB hurries and one forced fumble last season. He was named to the All-Big 12 second team by both the coaches and AP.
