Kansas City Roos men’s and women’s basketball teams fall short against Oral Roberts

It was a rough night at Swinney Center for Kansas City Roos men’s basketball on Saturday night against Oral Roberts.

Oral Roberts built up a 36-22 lead by halftime, and the Roos never gave the Golden Eagles much of a reason to look back.

Oral Roberts roughed up the Roos with an 85-57 victory.

The loss dropped the Roos to 10-15 overall and 6-6 in the Summit League. Oral Roberts improved to 21-4 overall and 12-0 in conference. Oral Roberts has won eight straight.

It was the second straight loss for Kansas City.

Shemarri Allen led the Roos with 16 points. Allen David Mukeba came off the bench and dropped in 12 points for Kansas City.

Oral Roberts star player Max Abmas scored 21 points in the victory. He made 8 of 17 shots from the field, including 4 of 9 on three-pointers.

The Roos are set to take the floor again on Thursday at Western Illinois.

Manna Mensah has big game in Roos women’s loss

Manna Mensah scored a career-high 32 points for the Roos, but KC still could not slow down Oral Roberts. Kansas City fell to the Golden Eagles 86-68 in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Saturday.

The Roos dropped to 7-16 overall and 3-9 in the Summit League. Oral Roberts, meanwhile, improved its marks to 11-12, 8-4.

Mensah made 11 of 26 shots from the floor. She also had 11 rebounds and earned her first double-double of her career. Mensah dished four assists to six turnovers.

The Roos’ Tamia Ugass pulled down 20 rebounds and scored 18 points.

Still, Kansas City was unable to keep up with Oral Roberts, particularly in the first half when the Golden Eagles outscored the Roos 47-28.

Kansas City committed 24 turnovers for the game, to Oral Roberts’ 11.

The Roos will return to action with more Summit League play on Thursday when Kansas City is set to play host to Western Illinois at Swinney Center.
