Kansas City area on wind advisory Friday, with a chance of strong storms in the forecast

A wind advisory has been issued for Kansas City until 7 p.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service, with a chance of strong storms, even tornadoes, throughout the day.

Gusts as high as 55 miles per hour are expected to hit the area, with temperatures forecast to reach a high of around 77 degrees.

Storms will primarily impact central and northeast Missouri, east of Interstate 35. Large hail and tornadoes are possible throughout the region, and limbs and power lines may be affected, according to the weather service.

The NWS has also issued a red flag warning for the Kansas City metro from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., as weather conditions pose an increased risk of fire. Area residents are encouraged to properly dispose of cigarettes and ensure outdoor fires are fully extinguished.

Later tonight, temperatures are expected to plummet to a low of 35 degrees, with gusts continuing to blow around 47 miles per hour.

The NWS reports a 30% chance of precipitation.
