JoJo Siwa, girlfriend celebrate four anniversaries in their budding relationship: Here's why

JoJo Siwa and her girlfriend are packing in quadruple the amount of love with their multilayered anniversary system.

During a recent appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Fallon congratulated Siwa on her anniversary with girlfriend Kylie Prew. Siwa then revealed the couple actually celebrates four separate anniversaries.

“Ky asked me to be the girlfriend on the 8th, January 8th," Siwa told Fallon. "But then I was like, 'You know what? I also need to ask you to be my girlfriend,' so we did that. We actually celebrate four days though: when Ky asked me to be girlfriend, when I asked Ky to be girlfriend, when we told each other that we liked each other and when we kissed for the first time.

"We celebrate all four: 8th, 14th, 28th and 29th.”

Siwa and Prew have been dating for eight months, and she told Fallon the couple will most likely stop celebrating the four anniversaries after their one-year anniversary.

The 18-year-old internet superstar, who rose to fame through the “Dance Moms" franchise, publicly came out as a member of the LGBTQ community in January. The following month, Siwa went public with her relationship with Prew on social media, sharing photos of the two holding hands and embracing.

“I’ve been the happiest I have ever been," Siwa wrote on Instagram at the time.

Siwa said she immediately bonded with Prew when they met on a cruise.

“We just became instant like this,” Siwa gushed while holding up crossed fingers with Prew during a joint podcast interview. "Like I had a big secret at the time that I wasn’t supposed to tell anybody, and I told her within 10 minutes of meeting her."

Siwa’s relationship with Prew has also inspired her professional life. As a contestant on the upcoming 30th season of the ABC ballroom-dance competition “Dancing With the Stars,” Siwa made history when it was announced she would have a same-sex dance partner. The pairing is the first of its kind in the show’s 16-year history.

Siwa told USA TODAY it was important to convey the message that "you can love whomever you want to love" with her choice of dance partner.

“I have a girlfriend who is the love of my life and who is everything to me," Siwa said. “My journey of coming out and having a girlfriend has inspired so many people around the world. I thought that if I chose to dance with a girl on this show, it would break the stereotypical thing: it would be new, different and change for the better."

The latest season of "DWTS" is set to premiere Sept. 20. Siwa also recently starred in the Paramount+ film “The J Team,” which began streaming Sept. 3.
