New Johnson County upscale sports bar will open Sunday for Chiefs Championship Game

A new Overland Park upscale sports bar celebrating Kansas City teams is scrambling to open in time for Sunday’s AFC Championship Game, when the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Kingdom Bar & Grille features custom murals by artist Chris Sembower of the Chiefs’ victorious Super Bowl in 2020 and other sports events of note. It also has three 85-inch TVs and 19 65-inch TVs, as well as patio seating.

Yard games will be offered later, along with live music, postgame shows and special events.

It is scheduled to open with a limited menu at 11 a.m. Sunday, at 12655 Antioch Road in Antioch 127. Game time is 2 p.m.

Lucas Development is the landlord and general contractor for the Kingdom Bar.

“It’s the Kingdom. Food, drink, sports, music, all those things to bring people together, to have fun, relax and have a good time,” said Jason Lucas, project manager for Lucas Development.

Chef Joshua Rosen is from the Kansas City area but has worked for restaurants across the country — Union Square Hospitality Group in New York, Desert Mountain in Scottsdale, Arizona, and Seven Glaciers Restaurant in Alaska.

The full menu, which will be rolled out later next week, will focus on smoked meats and higher-quality bar food, he said.

It will include appetizers — under Kickoff on the menu — such as loaded nachos, chicken lettuce wraps, wings, pulled pork sliders and fried snacks (Wisconsin cheese curds, fried pickles and jalapeno poppers).

Sandwiches will include the Red Zone Reuben, smoked brisket and The Bullpen (marinated chicken, sriracha mayonnaise, avocado, bacon, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion on an onion roll).

Its smokehouse offerings will include ribs and The Kingdom Platter with sliced brisket, pulled pork, smoked jalapeno sausage, pickled red onions pickled mustard, sliced dill pickle and Texas toast) for $25.

“We were smoking some meat today that looked and smelled fabulous,” Lucas said Wednesday.

The menu also includes steak burgers, steaks, pasta, salads and housemade cheesecake.
