John Boyega Tells 'Star Wars' Troll William Shatner to Keep His Mouth Closed

Only a short time ago in a galaxy not so far away, there was a bitter divide between the devotees of sci-fi/fantasy behemoths Star Wars and Star Trek. Fans clashed at conventions. Critics compared and contrasted the dueling sagas constantly. There was even a book written.

These days, though, there is more of a détente, especially with Star Trek rebooter and geek god J.J. Abrams jumping ship to direct this month’s rabidly anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Abrams was expectedly diplomatic when we asked him about the rivalry at this weekend’s Force Awakens press rounds, extolling the merits of both (watch above).

There has been one man, however, who is boldly trying his damnedest to stoke the flames of the Star acrimony. Trek vet William Shatner has taken to Twitter numerous times to throw shade at The Force Awakens, accusing Star Wars of ripping off costume designs from other sci-fi entries, proclaiming that “Those that can; do Star Trek. Those that can’t; do SWs,” and even comparing new fan favorite BB-8 to fan punchline Jar Jar Binks.

Well, John Boyega is having none of it. Despite being an active tweeter, the hardcore Star Wars fan who also happens to now be one of its lead characters (Finn) hadn’t heard of Shatner’s trolling, so we filled him in. “Here’s what you need to do,” Boyega said, addressing the man who played Captain Kirk. “Take a seat. Have a nice tea. And keep your mouth closed.”

The shots have been fired back, Shatner. Your move.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens Dec. 18.
