J.J. Abrams Reveals His Favourite Star Wars 7 Character

It looks as though ‘Star Wars 7’ director J.J. Abrams is rather fond of that shiny, chrome Stormtrooper armour, as he reveals his favourite character.

During an interview with Collider, the 49-year-old filmmaker revealed that his favourite character in the upcoming movie is none other than Captain Phasma.

“I can only say that Gwendoline Christie is my favourite,” he said. “She just killed it.”

Played by ‘Game of Thrones’ actress Gwendoline Christie, the menacing Captain Phasma will reportedly be hunting a particular First Order deserter – that’s right, she’s tracking John Boyega’s Finn.

And Abrams was hugely impressed with her performance beneath the helmet.

“You think, ‘Well, what? It’s wearing a costume’. But it’s a lot to wear and to have a performance when you’re wearing that requires a different kind of skill set and an additional talent, and she’s got it. It’s an incredible thing to work with her. I am glad that a character has been designed that is visually as stunning as that is, because she deserves it and the fans do too. When I first saw that design my mind was blown because it looked so undeniable.”

Of course, that soon-to-be-iconic chrome armour was first revealed in a series of concept art leaks… and gave us our first glimpse at how the galaxy far, far away had moved on. It was a rather striking image to say the least, and now we’ve seen Gwendoline Christie suited up in the official trailer, it’s obvious that they’re onto a real winner.

But does this mean that Gwendoline Christie will be confined to the bucked for the entire film, or will we see the menacing Captain Phasma beneath?

For now, that remains unclear… although I can’t help thinking that as a named character, we’re much more likely to see her out of the costume than your average Stormtrooper. But we’ll have to wait and see.
