Jerry Jones wants WR Odell Beckham on Dallas Cowboys, willing to be uncomfortable

The itinerary is set for Monday and possibly Tuesday.

And the Dallas Cowboys couldn’t be more clear in their messaging, from owner Jerry Jones all the way down: They want Odell Beckham to join the team for a Super Bowl run.

“We’re trying to be as great as we can be in every aspect,” quarterback Dak Prescott said after the team’s 54-19 victory against the Indianapolis Colts Sunday night. “Trying obviously to make a run at the Super Bowl, you want to make sure you have as many weapons as you can - That you’re fully loaded in every direction and just planning for the future.”

Why should Beckham join the Cowboys, who are 9-3 are riding a three-game winning streak, winning by combined margin of 122-42?

“Why? Look at us,” receiver CeeDee Lamb said. “We’re winning. Envision yourself in this offense. … Understand you’re gonna put yourself in this offense …

“I’m sure as hell he would love it. I’m sure.”

Again, the Cowboys would love to land Beckham.

And owner Jerry Jones is willing to lay out the red carpet and do whatever it takes to secure the free agent receiver, who will visit the Cowboys’ training facility on Monday for a full day of meetings with the coaching staff, training staff and the front office.

He is expected to meet with the team’s leadership council on Tuesday but a deal could be done before then.

Jones hopes to have a decision Monday night.

“I want this to work,” Jones said. “I’m going to be trying to make it work. So I’m going to be looking for reason to do, not reasons not to do.”

Beckham, a three-time Pro Bowler, has been idle since suffering a torn ACL in Super Bowl 56 last February as a member of the Los Angeles Rams.

He says he is healthy and ready to go. And he wants a multi-year contract.

But there is a chance the Cowboys may have to make a decision on a deal without getting a full workout from Beckham to check out his health.

Beckham visited the Giants and Bills last week but did not workout.

Jones said the Cowboys could sign Beckham without knowing exactly where he is in his rehab.

Again, Jones is willing to do whatever it takes.

“I’d probably do something uncomfortable with him,” Jones said. “I could possibly do something uncomfortable with him. I’m going to have to because he’s coming back from an injury.”

“We’ve just got to get down to a contract, an amount and health. There’s no question in my mind that under the right circumstances he can help us.”

Jones is willing to take the risk with Beckham because he sees him as a final piece to the puzzle in what he hope is a Super Bowl season for the Cowboys for the first time since 1995.

He wants to work and he will know after Beckham’s visit on Monday if it’s the right fit for the Cowboys. But he already has a good feeling about it.

“I’ll know it when I feel it. I’ll know it. I’ll know it,” Jones said. “It really will come down to something like that. I don’t know how to explain that, and I’ve missed with that feeling before. But it’s also worked. I think the promise of it might work. In other words, the willingness to take the risk can be worth the money. Or it can be worth the commitment.”

“He’s the real deal, and I think he’s very capable of having a lot more career in the NFL. We want to certainly see something that gives us every opportunity to have a big year this year with him. This year with him.”

Jones believes the team’s public campaign to woo Beckham will have a impact on his decision. He also believes the feeling is mutual between the two sides.

“I’ve felt very good about his opinion about what we’re about as Cowboys,” Jones said. “We have felt and been public about it what he is as a ball player and what he is as an NFL competitor. All of those things are nothing but complimentary. I’ve been complimented by what he’s talked about with the Cowboys, about me, about us, and I’ve meant every word positive that I’ve said about him. He’s the real deal.”

In addition to Jones and McCarthy, Beckham is expected to meet with many of the Cowboys players, including quarterback Dak Prescott.

Jones said identified Prescott as a reason Beckham should want to play for the Cowboys.

“Well, I think we’ve got a quarterback that fits really could make some music with him,” Jones said. “The quarterback. I think we’ve got an offensive line that would give the quarterback time to make some music with him.

“You know what he’s going to see with Dak and what a good feeling that would be to have him as a teammate. I would say that about all the people he might want to meet. He has some personality that is conducive to team chemistry. Odell does. So I think talking and meeting with as many people as we can.”

Prescott will meet with Beckham along with the leadership council but he could be talked into going to the Dallas Mavericks game Monday night to seal the deal.

“Mav’s game? When? Monday night? Yeah, if he wants to go, I’m down to go to the Mavs game,” Prescott said. “I’ll buy him a suite and we can go do that. He’s more of a courtside guy, I think, and I’m a suite guy, so we’ll have to meet in the middle somewhere.”

That what Jones hopes to do Monday to get a deal done.
