Jennifer Lawrence's family farm in Kentucky burns down in 'horrible fire'

Jennifer Lawrence and her family are mourning the loss of their Kentucky family farm and summer camp, after it burned down in a "horrible fire."

Camp Hi-Ho in Simpsonville, Kentucky, run by Lawrence's brother Blaine, shared a statement on its Facebook page Saturday revealing the devastating details of the Friday night blaze that required half a dozen trucks to bring under control.

"Words cannot express the pain we are in," the statement said, giving thanks to the fire departments who responded. "It is with the heaviest of hearts that we confirm the news that we lost our barn last night in a horrible fire. We are deeply thankful that no people or animals were hurt, but we are still mourning the loss of years of hard work and memories that occurred in these walls."

Simpsonville Assistant Fire Chief Bobby Cravens told WLKY-TV from the scene that one of the issues that hampered the fire fight was the water supply in the rural location. "Unfortunately, in areas like this, without hydrants, we have to have all our water tankered in for suppression efforts," Cravens said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Besides the "true heroes" – the firefighters – the camp's Facebook message thanked God with a vow to rebuild before the summer.

"He is with us and in control of the steps ahead," the statement said. "We know Camp Hi-Ho is a special place to so many, and we plan to rebuild and repair so that we can move forward with a safe and joyful camp experience this summer."

The camp had just started registration for the 2021 summer season before the fire broke out.

Lawrence's mother, Karen, said in a 2019 interview that the camp offered "arts and crafts, horses, archery, a lake, fishing, kayaks, paddle boats, a fort and a place called Hammock City, where lots of hammocks are tied to trees and kids can just hang out there all day and read or even daydream. There’s also a butterfly garden and a vegetable garden."

The camp was sold to Blaine "when things started getting busy with Jennifer’s career." Karen Lawrence said.
