Jennifer Lawrence To Play Assassin That Seduced Fidel Castro

As the biggest movie star in the world Jennifer Lawrence probably gets a vast array of scripts and treatments to pick her next roles from. Some actors would probably use this selection poorly, only selecting the highest paid or easiest parts.

But Jennifer Lawrence isn’t like most other actors. For starters, she already has four Oscar nominations despite being just 25-years-old. Plus, Lawrence is focused on taking as eclectic roles as possible, which is why in her next film, ‘Marita’, she’ll star as a former lover of Fidel Castro who later became an assassin for the CIA.

Like her most recent role in ‘Joy’, which she has earned another Best Actress Oscar nomination for, it’s all true too. According to The Hollywood Reporter, with ‘Marita’ Jennifer Lawrence will re-team with Eric Warren Singer, who wrote ‘American Hustle’, and the film has already been picked up by Sony Pictures, who vigorously fought off other studios to get it.

But while another Jennifer Lawrence film is always appreciated, the real appeal is the story of Marita Lorenz. Back in 1959 she met and started an affair with Fidel Castro, the leader of Cuba, when she was only 19. They even lived together for a short spell.

Lorenz ultimately left Cuba though, and soon became involved with the anti-communists over in the USA. She then was recruited to the CIA, where she was trained for an assassination mission. In 1960 she travelled back to Cuba to carry out the assassination, but it’s believed that she decided against doing that because she was so in love.

It doesn’t stop there though, because there are rumours that she was also involved in the assassination of John F. Kennedy, spied for the FBI, and had another affair with a Venezuelan dictator.

With Lawrence now on board it’s full steam ahead to find a director, and there are hopes that production will begin before the end of the year, with ‘Marita’ finally being released at the end of 2017. If all goes according to plan Jennifer Lawrence will then be picking up another Oscar in February 2018.
