Jeff Bridges has officially confirmed his return for Tron 3.

The Oscar winner starred as computer programmer Kevin Flynn in the sci-fi franchise's first two instalments – Tron (1982) and Tron: Legacy (2010) – and years after the upcoming third film was announced, he's finally revealed that he is suiting up again.

"I'm heading off this Saturday to play a part in the third instalment of the Tron story," the actor confirmed while speaking on the Film Comment podcast last week.

"It's wild. Jared Leto is the star of this third one, and I'm really anxious to work with him, and I've admired his work," he added.

Bridges' return has now been confirmed by Disney on social media, too, with a photo posted to the official Disney Studios Twitter/X account showing him reading his script. The caption reads: "Jeff Bridges returns to the grid."

The threequel, titled Tron: Ares, will follow "a highly sophisticated Program" known as Ares (played by Leto), who is "sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind's first encounter with AI beings".

In addition to Leto and Bridges, the film will star Evan Peters, Greta Lee, Jodie Turner-Smith, Sarah Desjardins, Cameron Monaghan and Gillian Anderson.

An official first look at Ares was shared by Leto last month, featuring a villainous-looking character suited up and illuminated by red lighting.

Speaking about this next chapter in the Tron story, director Joachim Rønning said: "I'm excited to be part of the Tron franchise and bring this new film to fans around the world.

"Tron: Ares builds upon the legacy of cutting-edge design, technology, and storytelling. Now more than ever, it feels like the right time to return to the Grid."

Tron: Ares is expected in cinemas on October 10, 2025.
