With an average age of 83, these actresses could be forgiven for thinking about retirement.

But Jane Fonda, 85, Lily Tomlin, 83, Rita Moreno, 91, and Sally Field, 76, have no intention of stepping back and are starring together in a new film, 80 For Brady.

“I think, as you get older, you get better at almost everything. I love my work more than ever,” said Fonda.

Moreno added: “It’s really about a frame of mind. And not believing all that bull---- about getting old.”

The quartet have a combined age of 335 and between them have five Oscars, 13 Emmys, three Grammys and three Tony awards.

Moreno, whose famous roles include Anita in the 1961 film West Side Story, is one of a handful of performers to have won one of each, putting her in the exclusive “EGOT” club.

80 For Brady is a comedy based on the true story of a group of friends who formed a club devoted to Tom Brady, the New England Patriots star quarterback. After the women became widows, they would gather regularly to watch the games.

In the film, the characters set off on a road trip to attend the 2017 Super Bowl and see their hero in person for the first time.

Field said the film served as a reminder that watching sport is not a male pastime. “I’m a long-time sports fan, and I think the world underestimates the huge audience that older women represent,” she said.

Fonda said Hollywood bosses should also take note. She explained: “We’re lucky because we’re old at a time when older people, mostly women, are the fastest-growing demographic in the world. Entertainment is a business and it has this market that it needs to feed.”

She said of the casting: “We’ve all stayed healthy and we were just there, ready - so who else are they gonna hire?”

Brady, who announced his NFL retirement this week, appears in the film. He said: “The opportunity to work alongside these four amazingly talented women has truly been a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

Asked in an interview with the American Association of Retired Persons about maintaining enthusiasm for life well into old age, Moreno replied: “I will confess that I wake up smiling. Yes, sometimes I sit in front of the mirror and go, ‘Yikes, who’s that old lady?’

“But then I’ll put on some make-up and I’m absolutely amazing.”
