James Gunn shuts down character rumour for Superman: Legacy
Superman: Legacy will not feature Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.
First appearing as the DC Comics government agent in David Ayer's resounding flop Suicide Squad in 2016, the Oscar-winning actress has since played 'The Wall' on three occasions in James Gunn's reboot The Suicide Squad, Black Adam and TV series Peacemaker.
Gunn, who is writing and directing next year's Legacy, was asked directly on Threads whether or not she'd be turning up opposite David Corenswet's Man of Steel.

"Mr Gunn is it true that Viola Davis will return as Waller in Superman: Legacy??" one user wrote. "Return as Waller IN Legacy? No. If that's a rumour out there it's false (as usual)," replied the filmmaker.
One thing DCEU fans can prepare themselves for, though, is a whole TV show dedicated to Waller.
Gunn revealed a year ago: "So this is Viola Davis. She's coming back as her character, Amanda Waller. This is also going to have some of Team Peacemaker in it, as the regulars on the show. This basically follows up to Peacemaker and is going to be done.
"[We] have this incredibly marvelous story worked out that I think is really fantastic and HBO loves. So they're putting this all together."

As for Legacy, Gunn and executive producer Peter Safran previously confirmed that the Kryptonian blockbuster would not take the form of a Clark Kent origin tale.
"It focuses on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. Superman represents truth, justice, and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old-fashioned," said Safran.
Gunn added: "He's working. He's a reporter. He's at the Daily Planet. Again, we're coming into a world where superheroes exist and have existed. So, does that mean Batman might be a couple years older than Superman? Yes, it could be."
Superman: Legacy premieres in cinemas July 11, 2025.
