James Cameron is writing new Terminator movie and it's about AI
The Terminator franchise might not be dead after all, following Dark Fate's... dark fate.
Released in 2019, the sixth instalment of the time-travelling cyborg saga brought back Linda Hamilton's legendary Sarah Connor and Arnold Schwarzenegger, yet the lack of James Cameron's directorial prowess (Tim Miller was behind Dark Fate) saw audiences run for the hills.
Now though, Cameron has reportedly told Dell Tech World conference attendees that he "started writing a new Terminator movie 3 months ago but wants to see how #AI shakes out before he goes any further," according to Twitter user @rcmercado.

This echoes the Oscar-winner's words on the SmartLess podcast last December.
He said to hosts Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes: "If I were to do another Terminator film and maybe try to launch that franchise again, which is in discussion, but nothing has been decided, I would make it much more about the AI side of it than bad robots gone crazy."
Sinister artificial intelligence is the bedrock of the movie series itself, so with its real-life progress dominating the news headlines at the moment, it's no surprise to see Cameron playing in this creative sandpit once again.

Meanwhile, actress Hamilton previously suggested that something was "missing" from Dark Fate.
"It just felt so emotionally loaded, going back. I'd worked my ass off beforehand, going to the most painful, disappointing places, combing through bitterness and darkness," she admitted to Empire Magazine after its release.
"And then, when we started and there wasn't a finished script, it all of a sudden became clear that it might not be a good movie."
