James Cameron – Star Wars: The Force Awakens Lacked 'Visual Imagination'

Saucer of milk for table six, please.

James Cameron, who is currently deep into his ‘Avatar’ sequels, took some time out to give his two cents on 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens’.

- Why is Keanu Reeves at Parliament?
- Pointless Movie Stars Transformations
- 15 Badly Injured Movie Stars

And it’s not particularly complimentary.

In an interview that has surfaced on YouTube, he first couches his comments by explaining that 'Star Wars’ originator George Lucas is 'a friend of mine’, before revealing his ambivalence towards the new movie.

“I don’t want to say too much about [The Force Awakens] because I also have a lot of respect for J.J. Abrams and I want to see where they’re taking it next,” he said.

“I have to say that I felt that George’s group of six films had more innovative visual imagination, and this film was more of a retrenchment to things you had seen before and characters you had seen before.

“And it took a few baby steps forward with new characters. So for me the jury’s out. I want to see where they go with it.”

And indeed, all eyes are on Cameron to see where he goes with his hugely ambitious 'Avatar’ sequels.

He’s currently making the long-delayed 'Avatar 2’, which will then be followed by a further three more movies.

'Avatar 2’ is due out in December 2018, and he’s already said that he has no intention of going head-to-head with any further 'Star Wars’ movies.

“I don’t want to go head-to-head with Star Wars,” he earlier this year. “That would be stupid. And hopefully they won’t want to go head-to-head with us.”
