James Cameron has Avengers fatigue: 'There are other stories to tell'

Avengers: Infinity War marks the culmination of 10 years of Marvel movies, bringing together Iron Man, Captain America, Doctor Strange, the Guardians of the Galaxy… the list goes on and on and on.

Fans are exceedingly excited for the massive blockbuster (which is expected to break box office records), but some people are getting tired of the relentless number of superhero movies reaching cinemas.

James Cameron falls into the latter group. The director of Titanic and Avatar (along with the upcoming Avatar 2 3, 4, and 5) said, according to IndieWire: “I’m hoping we’ll start getting Avenger fatigue here pretty soon.

“Not that I don’t love the movies. It’s just, come on guys, there are other stories to tell besides hyper-gonadal males without families doing death-defying things for two hours and wrecking cities in the process. It’s like, oy!”

Cameron was promoting AMC Visionaries: James Cameron’s Story of Science Fiction, which looks back at the history of science fiction movies.

During the same panel, the director told reporters that the upcoming Avatar sequels will be like The Godfather Part 2, focussing on family drama.

Meanwhile, Avengers: Infinity War reaches cinemas later this month, and will likely see a couple of main-stay superheroes die.
