Ivanka Trump Is ‘Complicit’ in Her Father’s ‘Collision of Cruelty and Incompetence,’ Says Chelsea Clinton

Chelsea Clinton did not hold back about her former friend Ivanka Trump in a new interview.

The pair had a close friendship up until their parents, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, faced off in the contentious 2016 election. Though the women have mostly remained mum on the subject of their relationship ever since, Chelsea did mention that she hadn’t interacted with the first daughter and senior advisor to the President “in a long time” while appearing on The Stephen Colbert Show in 2018. “It’s clear she has supported policies and decisions that I don’t agree with,” she said at the time, keeping the conversation focused on Ivanka’s father.

She did no such thing on her October 1 appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen when once again asked about their friendship. “I’ve not spoken to her since 2016,” Chelsea said. "Andy, I have no interest in being friends with someone who is not only complicit but actively taking part in this administration’s everyday collision of cruelty and incompetence.”

As for whether or not she ever attempted to contact Ivanka as her father routinely hurled insults and vicious chants against Hillary Clinton amid the 2016 election, Chelsea said that they were “in touch” toward the beginning of the campaign.

“It’s just really hard when there’s someone who’s actively embracing their candidate, whether it’s their father or not, who is trafficking in racism and sexism and anti-Semitism and Islamophobia and homophobia and transphobia and conspiracy theories and lies and is so fundamentally corrupt,” Chelsea explained. “At some point—I don’t think they’re the same by any standard—but I think she’s more than complicit, as anyone who has worked for him for so long by definition is. And I don’t want to be friends with someone like that.”

Ivanka Trump recently spent 18 minutes praising her dad—and herself—at the Republican National Convention, calling him a “warrior” and a “voice for those who have been unfairly silenced,” among other compliments. “I recognize that my dad’s communication style is not to everyone’s taste. And I know his tweets can feel a bit…unfiltered,” she said, seemingly in an attempt at humor. “But the results speak for themselves.”

Chelsea Clinton’s interview aired before the president revealed that he and his wife, Melania Trump, tested positive for COVID-19. Ivanka and her husband, Jared Kushner, have tested negative
