Kolkata Knight Riders began their second part of IPL 2021 season with a convincing 9-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore in Abu Dhabi. The win propels KKR to fifth place, RCB remain third in the standings. Image: Sportzpics
Playing his 200th IPL match, Virat Kohli bagged an early boundary to show intent. But on the very next delivery he was beaten for pace by Prasidh Krishna to be caught leg before. The RCB captain opted to review but all three lights showed red on HawkEye with no inside edge to save him. Image: Sportzpics
Varun Chakaravarthy finished with three wickets from his quota of four overs. He conceded 13 runs while accounting for the dismissals of Glenn Maxwell, Sachin Baby and RCB's debutant Wanindu Hasaranga. Image: Sportzpics
Another pick of the bowlers from the KKR camp was Andre Russell. He, too, picked three wickets from three overs while going for nine runs. His showing with the ball resulted in wickets of Srikar Bharat, AB de Villiers and Mohammed Siraj. Image: Sportzpics
Venkatesh Iyer and Shubman Gill made light of the paltry 93 run target. They stitched a strong 82 run stand while offering little hope to the RCB bowlers. Image: Sportzpics

Overall, headline inflation last month was 4.4 per cent — the fastest annual pace since February 2003. Statistics Canada said the annual inflation rate would have been 3.5 per cent had it excluded gasoline prices from its calculation. Economists warned Wednesday that

After declining initially on political and fiscal worries, Brazil's real rose as President Jair Bolsonaro said a new welfare program that he approved would not breach the government's spending limit, but failed to give details on how that would be achieved. The welfare announcement added to the evidence that there is little appetite for the long-term fiscal squeeze needed to stabilize Brazil's public finances, said William Jackson, chief emerging market economist at Capital Economics.

Seven countries abstained, and Nicaragua was absent, the Washington-based OAS said on Twitter.
Rahm Emanuel, nominee to be the next U.S. ambassador to Tokyo, vowed at his Senate confirmation hearing on Wednesday to prioritize the case of an American former Nissan Motor executive who is facing a possible prison term in Japan. In September, Japanese prosecutors asked a Tokyo court to send the executive, Greg Kelly, to prison for two years for his alleged part in helping Carlos Ghosn, Nissan's ousted CEO, hide earnings. When asked about the case, Emanuel, who President Joe Biden has nominated to be his ambassador to key U.S. ally Japan, told senators he would deal with it as if he was a congressman and Kelly a constituent.
