'Insecure' final season premiere has Twitter going through it: 'So important and real'

Issa Rae, are you sure we can't convince you to keep "Insecure" going for another five seasons?

Rae's comedy series "Insecure" (10 EDT/PDT Sundays on HBO and HBO Max) returned for the premiere episode of its final season, aptly dubbed "SeasonByeve," bringing fans together on Twitter to commiserate over the groundbreaking show's end and praise the progression of its characters and relatable storylines.

"We laughed. We cried. We loved. And now... we grow. Pull up and embrace all the feels with us tonight during the #SeasonByeve," the official "Insecure" account tweeted ahead of the premiere.

The series picked up where Season 4 left off, with Molly (Yvonne Orji) and Issa (Rae) still on rocky terms as they navigate their 10 year class reunion at Stanford University where Issa has been tapped to speak as a panelist after her successful block party.

During the panel, Issa grows increasingly uncomfortable as she realizes the entrepreneurs she's on stage with appear to be flourishing more than she is. We also get to see how Lawrence's (Jay Ellis) and Issa's relationship plays out following the revelation that he's expecting a child with Condola (Christina Elmore).

In its 30-minute run, the episode depicts the complications of friendships, relationships and being adults trying to get their lives together, all of which resonated with fans on Twitter.

"I love how Insecure literally plays out the insecurities of adulthood. Everybody is dealing with the shifts in friendships, goals, aspirations, family, careers, everything. That’s real AF," tweeted @asj519.

Another fan @shanellegenai wrote: "Issa admitting that she’s unsure if she’s on the right path is real AF. Like even with the best of planning, the reality is we’re all really just winging this (expletive). Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t and we have to pivot. Whew."

In the episode, Issa has a heart-to-heart with her college self during one of her ever so popular mirror conversations and we quickly realize college-aged Issa thought current Issa would be living a completely different life than the one she is right now. The plot point resonated with some fans.

"Realizing that you’re not where u said u would be 10 years ago is rough af. First episode and the topics are on point honey ! One of the many reasons this show is so important and real," tweeted @pbTange.

Most viewers on social media applauded the episode and the show for bringing certain conversations to the forefront.

"#InsecureHBO feels like a love letter to our generation. This life is hard, the situations we find ourselves in can be incredibly difficult, relationships are complex, being young, gifted, and Black is not easy. But we gone be alright...together," tweeted @iamkimrhill.

Jasmyn Lawson, a content executive at Netflix, tweeted: "#InsecureHBO has been a transformative show, not just for Black culture, but the entire industry. As a comedy exec, there’s not a day that goes by that I don’t hear it talked about or brought up in a pitch. Both new and veteran creators use it as a reference. It’s a new blueprint."

Lawrence and Issa's relationship back and forth also had Twitter in shambles with some still arguing over whether they're #TeamLawrence or #TeamIssa.

"If Lawrence just would’ve forgave Issa in szn 3 we wouldn’t even know Condolences AND I wouldn’t have to pray for her downfall #InsecureHBO," tweeted @sylviamphofe.

Jemele Hill tweeted: "I don’t know what I want with Issa and Lawrence. Their relationship is beautiful and impossible. WHAT IS WE GONE DO #InsecureHBO."
