Insane Cost Of New Lord Of The Rings And Hobbit Box Set Revealed

Middle Earth was shaken to its very core last week, after it was announced that there is to be a huge combined DVD/Blu-ray collection of Peter Jackson’s ‘Lord of the Rings’ and ‘The Hobbit’ movies.

Bringing together all the epic movies in one special box-set from the folk at Warner Bros Home Entertainment for the first time, it’s being sold as a limited ‘collector’s edition’.

And the price for such a comprehensive set? It’s an eye-watering $800 (about £610).

A smaug fortune, you might say.

There is indeed a lot involved in the new collection, with Warner Bros going to town in terms of quantity.

The six films are part of a 30-disc set, with bonus cuts, the theatrical cuts, bonus content from all the movies, 100-page sketch book, a replica of The Red Book of Westmarch, and two reproduction watercolour paintings by the revered conceptual artists Alan Lee and John Howe.

All the discs are also presented in faux leather (not real leather, it’s worth noting) book volumes too, so they’ll look smart on your bookcase.

And they better had too, for that price tag.

If that’s too much of a spicy meatball, you can plump for the six-disc Blu-ray release instead for just over £50.

Suffice to say that the latter might disappear more quickly from the shelves on its November 1 release.
