Immersive Van Gogh experience coming to unknown Sacramento venue. Here’s what to know

The work of Vincent van Gogh has been making its way across the country in what has been marketed as a unique and immersive experience by each of the companies undertaking the endeavor.

And soon, Sacramentans will have the chance to step into more than 300 of the artist’s paintings at “Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience,” one of the many traveling exhibitions.

A common trait of such experiences: Tickets are publicized before the location is announced.

Beyond Van Gogh is known for projecting high-resolution images of the legendary artist’s artworks and its original score, allowing visitors to get lost in the world of impressionist paintings.

There’s also the ”Van Gogh: Immersive Experience,” the “Immersive Van Gogh Exhibition” and the “Imagine Van Gogh Exhibition,” among others — each offering a different take on how the artworks envelop and allure guests.

“While other shows use virtual reality or still images, our show breaks barriers by incorporating both still and moving art,” Beyond Van Gogh said on its website. “Masterpieces, now freed from frames, come alive, appear, and disappear, flow across multi-surfaces, the minutia of details titillating our heightened senses.”

Visitors can expect to spend about an hour at the experience.

Organizers of the exhibit have not released information about where, when or which venue in Sacramento the experience will take place, but people can register for presale on the website.

No doubt the unknown location of the exhibitions has its draw; history, beauty and mystery make for an exciting adventure.

But in one company’s case, it caused an outcry when it postponed the month before it was expected to launch.

More than 100,000 tickets were sold for “Immersive Van Gogh Kansas City.” The organizers notified ticket holders about the two-month delay through email and offered refunds. The company said it had challenges finding “a suitable venue.”

“Beyond Van Gogh” has already stopped in several cities, including Reno and San Diego. Tickets for these locations started around $24, depending on the day and time.

COVID-19 safety

According to the “Beyond Van Gogh” website, the event will follow guidelines set by public health agencies and government officials. Some safety measures they have currently include the following:

  • Timed ticket sales to help reduce congestion and capacity.

  • Separate entrances and exits

  • Increased cleaning practices

  • Multiple hand sanitizer stations

  • Contactless transactions

  • Masks are recommended inside the venue.
