I’m A Celebrity campmate Giovanna Fletcher confessed she has a ‘girl crush’ on the Duchess of Cambridge after interviewing her for her podcast, Happy Mum, Happy Baby.

The duchess appeared on Fletcher’s podcast earlier this year, as she launched her survey on Early Years development, the results of which are forming the ambitious plans she will announce next year.

But the duchess also opened up on more personal matters, revealing how she used hypno-birthing and that she ended up looking forward to labour because her hyperemesis gravidarum had been so bad in early pregnancy.

Fletcher revealed the recording led her to have a “girl crush” on the duchess, and that the royal wanted her to keep in touch.

Talking to Shane Richie in the I’m A Celebrity castle about the booking, she said: “It was huge. She’s never done anything like that, ever, before.”

Asked what the royal was like, Fletcher added: “She was elegant, self-deprecating, but it wasn’t until two days before they asked me to send over an outline of what I’d love to ask her.

“So I just thought I’m going to go for it. I send them in and her comms guy was like ‘this is all great, I will take it to her, I think maybe she’ll talk about one or two things, I don’t know if she had morning sickness in labour, I’m not sure she did hypno-birthing’.

“They had scheduled 45 minutes - we had an hour and a half.

“Prince William had come in as he was briefing her, and had said ‘just talk. Don’t worry about saying anything you shouldn’t or exposing too much, we can change it in the edit’.

“So she is going to answer everything. It was amazing.”

Asked how the interview ended, she said: “We gave each other a hug and as we were saying goodbye she said ‘we must stay in touch’.”

The royals have slowly but surely embraced different forms of media, with Prince William also appearing on a podcast with Peter Crouch, Chris Stark, and Tom Fordyce over the summer.

Stark later revealed on Radio One that his interview also ran over, with William telling a staff member to move another of his meetings as they chatted and had beer and curry.

Fletcher, who is married to Tom Fletcher from McFly, said the podcast with the duchess was a “complete career high”.

She described the experience as “just two mums, nattering away. In true mum fashion, we were nattering so much that in the end we were drinking cold tea.”

Fletcher, who is a mum to three boys, also revealed that royal correspondents “couldn’t understand” why the duchess had used the podcast as her platform.

The revelations led to presenters Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly saying Richie’s “hammock of royal truth has struck again”.

It came after fellow campmate Ruthie Henshall opened up to the EastEnders actor about dating Prince Edward.

Fletcher is currently the camp leader and is favourite to win the series, which had to move to the Welsh countryside because of coronavirus restrictions.
